Baggage Limits on Northern Circuit Route

Maximum 8kg personal + 15kg porters. All excess equipment will be left at the hotel in Moshi and returned after your climb.

Each day is designed for optimal acclimatization on the Northern Circuit Route.

Day 0

Arrival in Tanzania

You will be picked up at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to your hotel in Moshi. Meet your guide for a briefing and equipment check.

Day 1

Arrive in Kilimanjaro

You will be picked up at the Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to your hotel in Moshi town. Your guide will brief you on your upcoming trek and do an equipment check.

Day 2

Lemosho Gate (2,100m) to Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,750m)

After breakfast, drive to Lemosho Gate. Begin trekking through lush rainforest on the western slope of Kilimanjaro. The trail is quiet and scenic. Camp in a clearing in the forest.

Day 3

Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,750m) to Shira Camp 1 (3,500m)

Today you trek through heath and moorland zones. The vegetation becomes more sparse and you enter the expansive Shira Plateau with stunning views of Kibo.

Day 4

Shira Camp 1 (3,500m) to Shira Camp 2 (3,900m)

Cross the Shira Plateau towards Kibo. The terrain is relatively flat with stunning panoramic views. Acclimatization walk in the afternoon.

Day 5

Shira Camp 2 (3,900m) to Moir Hut (4,200m)

Trek towards the northern side of the mountain. The terrain becomes more barren as you enter the alpine desert zone. Camp at Moir Hut with views of the Lent Hills.

Day 6

Moir Hut (4,200m) to Buffalo Camp (4,000m)

Today you trek around the northern circuit of Kilimanjaro, passing through remote and wild terrain. This is the least visited part of the mountain with incredible solitude.

Day 7

Buffalo Camp (4,000m) to Third Cave Camp (3,800m)

Continue circling the mountain on the northern side. The terrain is rocky and barren with occasional views of the summit glaciers. Gradual descent to Third Cave Camp.

Day 8

Third Cave Camp (3,800m) to School Hut (4,700m)

Ascend steeply towards the summit via the northern approach. The terrain becomes increasingly rocky and barren. Arrive at School Hut and rest before the midnight summit attempt.

Day 9

School Hut (4,700m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) to Mweka Gate (1,630m)

Summit attempt at midnight. Trek up the scree to Stella Point (5,739m) then Uhuru Peak (5,895m). Descend via Barafu and then down through the rainforest to Mweka Gate. Receive certificates and transfer back to hotel.
