This route is recommended only for experienced trekkers who are very fit and have previous high-altitude experience. The reward is a dramatic and intense climbing experience with stunning views.
Maximum 8kg personal + 15kg porters. All excess equipment will be left at the hotel in Moshi and returned after your climb.

Drive to Umbwe Gate and begin the steep ascent through dense rainforest. The Umbwe Route is the most direct and steepest approach to the summit. Camp in the forest zone.
Continue the steep ascent through heath and moorland. The trail is challenging but rewards you with incredible views. Arrive at Barranco Camp, located in the Great Barranco Valley.
Navigate the Barranco Wall, a fun scramble section. Pass underneath the Heim and Kersten glaciers before reaching Karanga Camp.
Ascend across desolate scree slopes to Barafu Camp. Rest and prepare for the midnight summit attempt.
Summit attempt at midnight. Trek to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) via Stella Point. Descend to Mweka Gate through rainforest. Receive certificates.
Descend to Mweka Gate, transfer back to your hotel in Moshi. Celebrate your achievement!
