The Rongai route approaches Kilimanjaro from the northern side near the Kenya border. It is the quietest route on the mountain, offering a remote and wilderness experience with minimal crowds.
The drier conditions on this side of the mountain make it an excellent choice during the rainy season. Wildlife viewing is outstanding, with chances to spot buffalo, elephant, and other animals in the lower forest zones.
Maximum 8kg personal + 15kg porters. All excess equipment will be left at the hotel in Moshi and returned after your climb.
Some steep sections and uneven terrain. A good level of fitness is recommended.

Each day is designed for optimal acclimatization on the Rongai Route.
You will be picked up at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to your hotel in Moshi. Meet your guide for a briefing and equipment check.
You will be picked up at the Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to your hotel in Moshi town. Your guide will brief you on your upcoming trek and do an equipment check.
Drive from Moshi to Nalemu Gate on the northern side of Kilimanjaro near the Kenyan border. Begin trekking through farmland and then into dense rainforest. Camp in a clearing in the forest.
Trek through heath and moorland zones. The trail is less steep than other routes and offers a more gradual ascent. Views of the Kenyan plains to the north.
Trek through alpine desert towards the Kibo Hut. The landscape becomes increasingly barren. Pass the "second cave" before reaching Kibo Hut where you will rest before the summit attempt.
Summit attempt at midnight. Trek up the scree to Gillman's Point (5,681m) then along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895m). Descend back to Kibo Hut then continue to Horombo Hut.
Descend through moorland and rainforest to Marangu Gate. Receive certificates and transfer back to hotel in Moshi.
Descend to Mweka Gate, transfer back to your hotel in Moshi. Celebrate your achievement!
