Baggage Limits on Marangu Route

Maximum 8kg personal + 15kg porters. All excess equipment will be left at the hotel in Moshi and returned after your climb.

Each day is designed for optimal acclimatization on the Marangu Route.

Day 0

Arrival in Tanzania

You will be picked up at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to your hotel in Moshi. Meet your guide for a briefing and equipment check.

Day 1

Arrive in Kilimanjaro

You will be picked up at the Kilimanjaro International Airport and transferred to your hotel in Moshi town. Your guide will brief you on your upcoming trek and do an equipment check.

Day 2

Marangu Gate (1,870m) to Mandara Hut (2,720m)

After breakfast at the hotel, you will be driven to the Marangu gate. After registration, you begin your trek through dense rainforest. The trail is well-maintained and relatively gentle. You will reach Mandara Hut for lunch, and can optionally visit the Maundi Crater for panoramic views.

Day 3

Mandara Hut (2,720m) to Horombo Hut (3,720m)

Today you trek through rainforest that gradually transitions into moorland. The vegetation becomes more sparse and the views open up. You will have lunch at Kibo Hut before continuing to Horombo Hut, where you will spend the night.

Day 4

Horombo Hut (3,720m) to Kibo Hut (4,700m)

You will trek through alpine desert today. The landscape becomes increasingly barren and rocky. You pass the "last water point" before reaching Kibo Hut, where you will have an early dinner and rest before the summit attempt.

Day 5

Kibo Hut (4,700m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) to Horombo Hut (3,720m)

The summit attempt begins at around midnight. You will trek up the scree slope to Stella Point (5,739m) and then continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895m). After taking photos at the summit, you descend back to Kibo Hut for a short rest, then continue down to Horombo Hut for the night.

Descent to Moshi

Descend to Mweka Gate, transfer back to your hotel in Moshi. Celebrate your achievement!
